What Rough Beast is a group from the greater Sacramento area that showcases an eclectic mix of musical influences. "Best description of their music is fusion (jazz, rock, pop with a touch of world rhythm)." -Pieter Pastoor (KDRT 95.7). The band was formed in 2015 by guitarist Keith Filson and drummer Bob Gibeault. That summer, bassist Bryant Whaley and pianist Jon Shapiro joined the group, playing their first show in Santa Cruz California August 22, 2015. 

The quartet began developing their style, performing a number of shows, and building their fan-base. With the addition of multi-instrumentalist David Martin, Flautist Mike Rice and auxiliary percussionist Jesse Escobar. The group expanded the sound and continued to branch out to different audiences, gaining the attention of Northern California concert and festival promoters. 

In January of 2018, the new lineup hit the studio. The band decided to record with John Morris (Tanglewood Studios), and Joe Johnston (Pus Cavern Studios) both of which having experience working with artists such as Pablo Cruise, Montrose, Frank Hannon of Tesla, CAKE, and The Deftones. They have released two tracks on KRXQ 98 Rock in anticipation for their upcoming EP.
